1. I just registered. What do I do now?
Please check your parent’s email (Primary, Spam, and Junk) for an email from BOBtutor. It contains terms and conditions that you and your parent should read together and understand before clicking “approve.” After you click “approve,” your account will be activated. Next, please wait for the Vice President of the branch you signed up for to contact you; this typically happens within a few days. 2. Why am I unable to create an account with my profile picture?
We only support png, jpg, and jpeg file extensions, and the file name should not contain any dots except for file extension. For example: "profile.png" is acceptable, while "my.profile.png" is not. Your file size should be less than 2 MB.
3. Why can I not log into my tutor account?
Your account might not be approved yet. If you are not approved within three days, check your email to see if you have received a message from our team indicating why you have not been approved.
4. Why can I not see BOBtutor messages in my Gmail inbox?
Messages from BOBtutor might be automatically put into the Promotions Inbox by Gmail. You can resolve this issue by dragging the BOBtutor email from Promotions to your Primary Inbox and selecting the option to move all future conversations with BOBtutor to your Primary Inbox.
5. Do I need to be interviewed in order to become a tutor?
There are no interviews for tutors. However, if you decide to apply for a leadership position, you will fill out an application and be interviewed. Our leadership application process typically takes place in June.
6. How will I be trained to tutor someone?
The Vice President for the branch you registered for will orientate you, present our tutor handbook, and help guide you throughout your journey as a new tutor. Finally, you will shadow another tutor for a lesson or two to see what is expected of our tutors.
7. Where can I find more detailed information about BOBtutor as well as policies and procedures for tutors?
Our tutor handbook provides a comprehensive overview of the BOBtutor organization as well as specific information about our policies and procedures. It can be found on the BOBtutor website after clicking “Members,” then “Tutors.”
8. Do I have to make my own lesson plans?
The English branch has curriculum directors who create plans for specific levels; these are pre-made. However, you are expected to alter them based on your student’s preferences and needs. Some programs in other branches also have pre-made lesson plans; if your program does not, you will need to create your own.
9. What if I am unable to attend a class?
Please inform your program director of any expected absences at least 24 hours in advance. We understand that emergencies sometimes happen, but it is important that our directors have enough notice to prepare and adjust classes when someone is absent.
Absences that occur with less than 24-hour notice are considered unexcused. Tutors with three or more unexcused absences will be contacted by the program director and their parent(s) may be notified as well.
10. What if my student is unexpectedly absent the day of class?
If your student is unexpectedly absent, we highly encourage you to use that time to shadow other classes in the same program. You are able to log training hours for shadowing, and it is a great opportunity to see how other tutors teach.
11. Can I use hours I spend tutoring at BOBtutor to apply for volunteer awards and/or service hours?
Hours you spend volunteering for BOBtutor may be used when applying for the President's Volunteer Service Award (PVSA), other volunteer awards, and service hours, depending on the organization's requirements. Start tracking your hours now!
12. How do I apply for the BOBtutor's Volunteer Service Award (BVSA)?
Build Our Bridge Academy (BOBA) awards the BVSA each year during our application period-typically at the beginning of August each year. Please check our website under the “Members” tab. Click on “BOBtutor's Volunteer Service Award” to find detailed instructions.

2. How long is each class?
Each class length varies based on student needs, but our classes are typically 45-60 minutes.
3. Is the Art class online or in person?
All classes are online via Zoom.
4. What if I am unable to attend a class?
Please inform your program director of any expected absences at least 24 hours in advance.We understand that emergencies sometimes happen, but it is important that our directors have enough notice to prepare and adjust classes when someone is absent. Based on your program, you may be offered the option to have a “make-up” class. Our program directors track weekly attendance and if you miss too many classes, you may be removed from the program and put on a waiting list. Please check with your program director for more details on your program’s attendance policy.
1. Can I use the same student account for multiple students?
No. You should create a separate student account with different emails for each student. However, your email can be used as the parent email for multiple children.
2. What is the calendar for U.S. programs?
For U.S. programs, our classes run on a trimester system.
Fall: September-December (10-12 classes)
Spring: February-April (10-12 classes)
Summer: June-August (8-10 classes)
3. Do we need to register and pay a registration fee every semester?
Yes. Every semester you need to register and pay the registration fee for each class your child is registered for (no additional fees are paid for classes).
4. Can my student join any program listed on your website?
Our programs are separated based on different time zones. If you are based in the U.S., please only sign up for the U.S. programs under each branch.
5. Do your tutors give homework?
Homework may or may not be assigned based on the program as well as your child’s needs. If you would like homework assignments, please let the tutor or program director know, and they will help arrange it.
6. Do you offer summer or winter camps?
Some of our branches may offer summer and/or winter camps, depending on interest and tutor availability. Keep an eye out for advertisements on our website, emails, and WeChat messages as we approach camp time!
